You’ll quickly gather that there is still a huge amount of work to do – every post from the old site needs reformatted, every photo needs re-uploaded to our dedicated media server, tagged and then sorted into albums….. it’s endless, and a bit overwhelming if truth be told.
If you start sorting through the posts, you’ll see what I mean. But if you’re reading this, then I’m amongst friends and family, so I’m sure you’ll forgive me. I have been focused on building the infrastructure over the last few months, and now am concentrating on uploading content, but there just isn’t enough hours in the day.
Lets point you at what does work, and some special ‘tweeks’ I have included.
In every page and post, at the top right corner, you’ll see links to facebook etc… but beside that, you’ll see a small ‘A’, and a big ‘A’. Clicking them enlarges the script or makes it smaller, whichever you choose, but its designed to help old people like me read the site easier.
It’s great for the mobile phone, in that, you can resize the text to fit your phone screen, rather than ‘pinch and zoom’ into the webpage.
I’ve tried to make the site as ‘mobile phone’ friendly as possible. All galleries and videos will automatically detect a mobile phone and adjust themselves accordingly. In fact, the galleries will detect your screen and give you play controls as well. I could start them for you automatically, but I’ll allow you to tap the screen twice!
If you own an AppleMac, or rather, bought an AppleMac and Steve Jobs still dictates what you can and cannot do with it, you are gonna miss out on some nice flash presentations unfortunately! Blame him, not me if you see a big black cavity at the top of some pages…. but for those of you who can see, for example, the ‘Home’ page tumbling gallery, scroll over the page and you will see ‘stop‘ ‘link‘ and ‘info‘ appear – click ‘info‘!
Most of the videos are in what’s known as a ‘lightbox’ in that, they will pop out of the page into a separate screen and play from there. Just scroll over the picture and a ‘play’ button will appear. All videos are uploaded in High Definition, so if you have a crappy computer or internet connection, they might struggle to play without buffering (staggering).
UPDATE: I have turned off the automatic play in High Definition and added an ‘HD’ button to each video – if you have a good internet connection and computer, then turn on ‘HD’ by clicking the button in the video player to give you a much higher quality.
You will find that if you clear your computers ‘cache’ and allow the video to refill it, then they will run very smooth. Because of the quality, they will look best in full screen.
There is also a nice little player hidden away here…..
