Abu Dhabi 2013 – Race 2

Christian and Ugur were on the back foot from the start after failing to post a time in qualifying when the torque sensor broke, but despite starting from seventh they hauled #91 up through the pack and were into third spot by lap 3 and chasing down LF10 when we developed engine problems, and further compounded by steering issues, we slowed to a crawl on lap eight.

Christian and Ugur nursed our stricken boat around the circuit for the next two laps and literally floated across the finish line to complete 10 laps and collect the vital points needed to secure the runners-up slot in the overall World Championship standings, finishing ahead of LF10 by one point.

Abu Dhabi 2013…. Race 1

What a race! – we experienced mechanical problems before the start of race 1, and literally minutes before the white flag went up for the boats to move out to the start line, we where tightening the bolts on the new gearbox and cleaning the pontoon where half the workshop tools where resting.

And race we did! – Christian and Ugur drove with consistency, quality and precision that seen us come over the line second fastest and brought us to equal second in the world championship alongside Victory Australia, and 16 points behind World Championship leaders, Victory Dubai.

Today is without doubt thee most exciting day for the team, where potentially we could become World Champions….. though we will be depending on the hand of good fortune.

If Victory Dubai fail to finish, and we can stay ahead of Victory Australia and finish 1st or 2nd, then we win the World Championship.

Its that simple.

Abu Dhabi 2013 – preparations

Welcome to the last race of the 2013 Class-1 World Championship here in a very hot Abu Dhabi.

The team have all arrived and over the last few days, Rolf, Stig, Trond and the rest of the possy have been diligently working away preparing the boat for what is certainly to be a very interesting, and potentially exciting 3 days.

There is already plenty of activity going on here with the Nations Cup in full swing including the team from Norway, but for today, we’re getting everything organised around the workshop, and setting up the hospitality in anticipation of the 90 or so visitors and supporters that have traveled down from Norway to join us.

The racing officially kicks off tomorrow and an exact timetable is attached here – just click on the picture for a better detail.

Of course, and as usual, we will be trying our best to keep everyone updated on facebook and here on the website…. internet connection permitting!

Terracina, Italy: Day 3, Race 2

Needless to say we are very disappointed at being robbed of our first win, but everyone is still very positive about how we, as a team, have evolved to where we are today, and the expectations we put upon ourselves to be a resident of the podium at every Grand Prix.

The issue today was that after the start was aborted, the start boat broke down and the race boats had to muster for over 20 minutes with engines running! – we allow fuel for aborted starts, but not for 25 or so minutes of going round in circles waiting for the race to start again.
Just before the restart, ourselves, Fendi and Victory all asked for the race to be reduced by one lap because of fuel issues, but the Race Director refused, and at that point, our fate was sealed. The three leading teams know that weight can be the difference between 1st and 2nd, so we calculate accordingly…… but apparently the UIM don’t have the ability to understand that concept.
